Product Details

A traditional bamboo matcha whisk designed to help you create a smoother, creamier bowl of matcha at home.

Crafted from natural bamboo, the Shin Chasen is an essential tool for preparing matcha the traditional way. Its fine bamboo prongs gently break up clumps, blend the powder evenly with water, and naturally incorporate air as you whisk, creating a smooth texture and a delicate layer of foam.

Whether you're making a classic usucha, an iced matcha, or your everyday matcha latte, the Shin Chasen helps bring out the best in every bowl.

Why use a bamboo whisk?

Unlike an electric frother, a bamboo whisk is specifically designed for matcha. Its flexible bamboo prongs suspend the tea evenly throughout the water while creating a light layer of microfoam, resulting in a smoother, silkier drink with a more traditional finish.

Before first use

Before your first use, soak the bamboo prongs in warm water for 3–5 minutes. This softens the bamboo, allowing the prongs to become more flexible and reducing the risk of breakage during whisking.

A slight change in the shape of the prongs after soaking is completely normal.

How to use

  1. Add your matcha and a small amount of warm water to a matcha bowl or wide cup.
  2. Whisk quickly using a gentle back-and-forth "W" or "M" motion until the matcha is smooth and lightly foamy.

  3. Once whisked, add your remaining water or milk and enjoy.

Avoid stirring in circles or pressing the whisk firmly against the bottom of the bowl. Light pressure allows the bamboo prongs to do the work.

Care

  • After each use, rinse the whisk gently with warm water and allow it to air dry upright.
  • Do not use soap, boiling water or a dishwasher.
  • Avoid leaving the whisk submerged in water for extended periods.

Because each chasen is made from natural bamboo, the prongs will gradually soften, separate and change shape with use. This is a normal part of the whisk's lifespan.

Please note that as each Shin Chasen is handcrafted from natural bamboo, slight variations in colour, grain and shape are expected. These natural differences make every whisk unique.
