ABOUT US

Matchérie is a modern expression of Japanese tradition. Rooted in ritual, designed for everyday rituals, and meant to be enjoyed slowly.

Matchérie began long before it had a name.

Growing up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, weekends meant café hopping with friends, ordering matcha after matcha, comparing notes, and rating matcha cafés like we were critics.

Some nights, my family and I would go on late café drives; all of us with matchas in hand, music playing, talking the entire way home through Kuala Lumpur traffic.

When I was in college, my dad would pick me up after class and we’d stop at a drive-through. I’d get a matcha. He’d get a matcha and a pastry. We’d sit in traffic, music blasting, just talking. He’s always been a very proud girl dad.

Matcha, for me, has always meant connection.

Homemade matcha during lockdown

During lockdown, when cafés closed and the world felt quiet, I started making it at home.

I experimented constantly: matcha butter, matcha pancakes, blueberry matcha toast, matcha milk with granola. It wasn’t perfect, but it was comforting. It was my way of recreating something I missed. When I moved to Perth for university, I began whisking my own matcha again. Partly because it reminded me of home, and partly because there weren’t many places here doing it the way I remembered. I missed the quality. I missed the culture around it. I missed the lifestyle of it.

Then, I met Tomas in 2024.

He had never tried matcha before we met.

Now, he knows the difference between harvests. He can taste the balance in a blend. He cares about sourcing, temperature, texture; all the small details that make a cup special.

What started as something that was mine slowly became something that was ours.

Matchérie was built together, from late-night ideas at the kitchen table, market mornings before sunrise, long conversations about packaging, flavour, and how we wanted people to feel when they held a cup in their hands.

Matcha fields in Uji, Kyoto, Japan

Today, we source high-quality matcha from Uji, Kyoto, honouring tradition while creating something modern and expressive.

More than that, we’re building the experience we both believe in:

Quality without compromise. A drink that brings people together. A ritual that fits into real life. A lifestyle that feels intentional, not rushed.

Matchérie is our way of bringing that feeling - of connection, curiosity, and care to Perth.

And we’re just getting started.

Welcome to Matchérie.
